From this moment on, children should have fruit daily. If the benefits of fruit in the diet of children are well known, now studies reveal that mandarin and apple help reduce cardiovascular risks in obese children.
Researchers from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the Doctor Peset University Hospital, the University of Valencia and the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology of the CSIC have developed a new aperitif, made with apple steeped in tangerine juice which, after some studies, has been highly beneficial for overweight children.
The study was carried out on 48 obese children between 9 and 15 years old and the result was:
- improvement of blood pressure
- increased antioxidant defenses
- decrease in oxidative damage and inflammation, which are cardiovascular risk factors
To obtain this appetizer, the researchers enriched apple slices with mandarin juice using a vacuum impregnation technology they developed. Its intention is to market it to make it available to the general public, and obese children in particular.
However, it is important to emphasize that this snack is not a product that induces weight loss in children, but it is a food that can improve their quality of life, now that the number of cases of overweight children.
