A moqueca is a fish or seafood stew, very traditional in the northeast of Brazil, more specifically in the province of Bahia. A recipe with many exotic flavors that everyone in the family is sure to love. Due to its high caloric level, it is a recommended recipe only for special occasions.

Guiainfantil.com offers you the step by step of this recipe so well known in Brazil: prawn moqueca, with a touch of coconut milk and the oil of a palm tree called ‘dendê’. What if we go for the recipe?

  • 500 gr. medium-large prawns
  • 6 ripe tomatoes (without seeds or skin)
  • 2 large onions
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 yellow bell pepper
  • 2 tablespoons (soup) dendê oil
  • 100 ml of coconut milk
  • ½ cup of lemon juice
  • Oil and parsley
  • Salt and pepper

1. Clean the prawns and season them with salt, pepper and lemon juice

2. Wash and cut the peppers, tomatoes, onions, garlic and parsley into small pieces.

3. In a clay pot, add normal oil and fry the chopped onion and garlic first.

4. Then add the tomatoes and peppers and let them fall apart.

5. The next step will be to add the coconut milk and dendê oil, and the parsley. Stir.

6. Add the prawns and let them cook for about 5 minutes, nothing more.

7. Correct the salt.

8. Remove the casserole from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

The prawn moqueca is served hot, accompanied by white rice.

Bom appetite!
